Wow, it’s been a fun and crazy week this week! I am sorry I missed our Weekly Check-in last week. I was down with a bug and it totally slipped my mind.
Monday and Tuesday of this week, we got new windows for our home. We’ve been planning this for 6 months. Our home is about 18 years old, and the windows were original. Our new windows were purchased and installed from Lowe’s, and are double pane and double hung, so they’re so easy to clean. My husband has done most of the remodel work on the house himself, but this is something he wanted to let someone else do. The windows’ trim are made of vinyl, and because of the exterior color of the house, we chose to get a bronze exterior window, with white on the inside. Our old windows were a bit drafty, and not very pleasant to look at. I don’t like windows with grids in them, so we didn’t get them (plus they cost more!).
Here are some before shots of the old windows. The exterior is with the shutters taken off.
Here is an interior shot. The old windows were sort of a double window system. There was the “pretty” window that you could see from the outside, and then on the inside was a storm window. The storm window is supposed to keep your house more comfortable. It doesn’t have grids like the outer window. In this picture, the storm window was already taken out. You can kind of see the interior edges of the window. This window was just the wood, but some of the other windows had ugly wallpapered sheetrock that matched the interior walls of the house before we painted them. Ug.ly.
The old windows were a bit difficult to open, and our daughter’s didn’t even open at all.
My new windows are so nice! They are double-hung, so they can be opened from the top or bottom, and fold out for cleaning. The screen only covers half of the window, so it can slide up or down depending on which part of the window you open. Here’s a view from the dining table.
Here is the finished look of the house. We will eventually take the underpinning out and replace it with something else. It’s pretty unsightly. The new windows just really make the house look so much nicer from the outside. The only window we didn’t replace was the master bath. Windows aren’t made in that size, so we would have to do some modifications to replace that one.
We are so happy with the results, and Lowe’s was wonderful to work with.
We’ve got something fun that we are doing this summer. Bowling! There’s only 1 thing better than bowling, and that’s free bowling! At KidsBowlFree, your child(ren) can bowl 2 free games per day that your local bowling center participates (our days are Friday and Saturday). The only cost to you is shoe rental, and that is pretty minimal. There are lots of participating bowling centers in the US and Canada. For an additional cost, you can add a Family Pass, which includes up to 4 adults. This is great for parents and grandparents! The Family Pass is completely optional, but I highly recommend it so you can join in the fun. We took the kids bowling today for the first time, and they loved it. We all had so much fun! If you decide to sign up, I’d love if you entered my email as your referrer in the Referrer’s Email Address box: theowlymama at gmail dot com. You’ll receive your free bowling coupons each week to your email inbox, and you just print and go. It really is that simple!
