Learning multiplication facts has been a bit of a struggle for us. It was a struggle for me to learn in school but it did eventually click. We were given an opportunity to review Times Alive from Times Tables the Fun Way. This product and company are new to us, and I love trying out new-to-us products. Times Alive is an online digital product that contains online lessons with animated songs and stories to learn times tables the fun way. We were given a 3-month subscription for this review. There is also a monthly plan option.
In total there are 18 lessons, and each lesson contains between 3-5 sections. Lessons may have quizzes, songs, movies, or painting. A story teaches the lesson, and then students can take a quiz to be sure they understand what they’ve watched. It’s all fun and catchy, which is good to keep young minds interested, I think.
My original intention for the program was to use this with my 8th and 6th-grade boys; multiplication has been a struggle for the older one, and a little slow for the 6th-grader but not terrible. While I think that the lessons are well though out and put together, I definitely think that Times Alive is better suited to the younger crowd. I plan to try this out with Lucas to see how he does with it. We haven’t worked on multiplication at all yet, but I think the stories and activities will sit better with him. The older boys thought it was “too young” for them, although I think it was still useful. I like that it was all online and there were no downloads to keep up with, and progress is easy to see.
