One of the first things I want to talk about is something I don’t remember from my previous memberships with SchoolhouseTeachers.com is the 3 emails I received from them after my membership was instated. In two weeks’ time, I was sent emails loosely titled “Getting the Most Out of Your Membership.” Each email is a short, easy-to-read, yet very informative tutorial of the various tabs on the site. I’ll go over a few of those here today.
The Quick Links tab contains a list of all subjects, along with each subtopic with clickable links to lessons and more information.
Browse by Grade is a dropdown menu that has links for Learning Together (Preschool Playground, Seasonal Classes, and Family), plus Elementary, Middle, and High School grades.
Browse by Subject is also a dropdown menu but has all of the available subjects listed, which includes unit studies.
Planning includes lesson planning, Schoolhouse planners, scope & sequences, record keeping, a custom schedule builder, and a few other goodies.
Resources features help for special needs learners, high school, TOS Magazine resources, plus a library of printable certificates.
Videos is a roundup of streaming media that is included with your membership. Places like Right Now Media, City on a Hill, and Boat Angel are content providers.
Media is where you’ll find access to your FREE membership to the World Book eBook Library! Some of the books from here are recommended reading for SchoolhouseTeachers.com lessons.
Tutorials is a series of videos that includes a site tour, High School help, lesson plans, and Preschool Playground.
Custom Schedule Builder
I’m going to go over the Custom Schedule Builder because I believe that this is something new on the website. With the Custom Schedule Builder, you can create a weekly schedule for an unlimited amount of students. Here is an example of a schedule created with the Builder. You see the student name and schedule dates on the upper right side, and then subjects are listed with specific classes. Finally, on the second page are links to each class. This allows you to download and save the schedule to your computer and each student can get to their work on their own. The report downloads as a Word doc, but you can also save it as a PDF file. Here is a sample schedule that I made for Rachelle. It’s a very easy system to use, which I love.
Monthly Menu
This is another favorite feature of mine. It doesn’t really have anything to do with homeschooling, but I’m a huge fan of menu plans! Each month’s menu has a recipe for every day of that month. I’m not sure if or how often the menu changes, but there are a wide variety of recipes here!
Schoolhouse Planners
Do you love planners? Well, SchoolhouseTeachers.com has 6 printable planners to choose from! There is the Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner, Schoolhouse Planner, Special Learners Planner, Primary Schoolhouse Planner, Intermediate Schoolhouse Planner, and the High School Schoolhouse Planner. The planners contain things like engaging articles, forms for record-keeping, calendar pages, field trip trackers, book logs, chore charts, grammar and spelling rules, and way more, too much to discuss all of it. Remember, this is included in the membership, not an additional purchase!
I love SchoolhouseTeachers.com and was so bummed when my membership ran out, and so receiving a new one definitely made my day (or year!)! For the most part, Rachelle has used the website more than anyone else. She logged into my computer, I logged myself into the site in the browser, and I just pretty much let her have at it. She browsed subjects by her grade and chose the subjects she wanted to use. So far I think her favorite is Mythology. It’s easy for her to follow along with the lessons. I’m planning to use this more with the boys now that we are getting back into the swing of school after Christmas break. It’s great to have everything on one site and be able to sit the boys down and say “Here, look at this and choose what you want to do.” Also, I’m a bit of a planner addict so I can’t wait to look through all of them even more. Self-paced work is the best for sure! I highly recommend SchoolhouseTeachers.com to everyone, it’s been one of my favorite homeschooling resources for years.
