We had a great time in Dollywood! We left Monday afternoon and arrived in Pigeon Forge around 3. After we stopped for a quick meal, we checked into our hotel and then went on to the park. Dollywood has a sort of promo, where if you go in after 3pm, you can go the next day for free. We also packed a large cooler full of drinks to save a little money, plus I took a backpack to carry around the park and filled it with snacks, sunscreen, essential oils, and other small things we needed.
The first ride that we rode was the Blazing Fury. It’s a fairly mild underground roller coaster. None of the kids had ridden a coaster before this. Lucas hated it, but everyone else loved it. I’m not much for rides, so I mostly walked around with Lucas and rode the kiddie rides with him. Jerm and the older 3 rode all of the coasters that are at Dollywood, although Ethan did get kind of sick after one in particular, so he didn’t ride anymore after that. He’s discovered he doesn’t like heights. Monday was a pretty hot day, but Lucas and I rode a water ride so we could cool off a bit. At 9:30 in the evenings, there were fireworks. My favorite part of going to Dollywood is getting a funnel cake. They had a salted caramel funnel cake. It was so delicious!
Tuesday was a more mild and overcast day. We arrived when the park opened at 10am so that we would get most of the day in. Lucas, Ethan and I rode more kiddie rides, while Jerm, Rach, and Issac rode the coasters again. In the afternoon, the wind started to pick up, so a lot of rides were shutting down. Finally around 4, it started to rain, so we decided to just leave for the day. We had held back enough money so that we could go eat dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant Tuesday evening. It rained pretty hard at the house that day, so everything so soaking wet (but YAY for free garden watering!).
Overall, we had a great time. This was the first time the kids had stayed at a hotel, and this was the first time we’d been to Dollywood in 10 years. With 4 kids plus Jerm and I, it’s pretty pricey for us to go. The kids are already asking to go back, but we aren’t’ sure yet when that’ll happen. If you’re ever in Pigeon Forge, TN, be sure to check out Dollywood while you’re there. Unless of course you’re like me and don’t do rides. Then you can just check out all of the outlet malls.
Jerm has been on vacation for the last 2 weeks. We are gonna miss him like crazy when he goes back to work on Monday.
