Early chapters in the book are broken down into the meal types listed above. What’s cool is that there are lists of foods that are complimentary to each meal/food type. There are also meal examples for each type. Meals need to be spaced out every 2.5 to 3 hours if you’re switching back and forth between S and E meals, which will be your main meal types. It takes a little getting used to at first, but after a while you don’t think about the timing as much and what fuel type you need to eat.
The book also delves into beverages; what is okay and what isn’t. Consuming excess sugar is going to expand your waistline, and the book advises what sweeteners are optimal. Hint: they are not artificial sweeteners! Yay!
THM is pretty easy to make family friendly. If you have children, of course, they will get more fat and carbs together because they’re still growing unless they are overweight. I’ve made quite a few of the recipes that almost everyone enjoyed. Chapter 15 is about eating out, which is great for those who dine out more often. There are lists of plan-friendly restaurants and foods, and you can find an on-plan meal at most restaurants once you understand what to look for.
There are lists of affordable “superfoods” (eggs, salmon, okra, etc) and specialty foods. The specialty foods aren’t a requirement to eat on plan, but they do make things a little easier and give you a wider range of options. Things like gelatin, coconut oil, glucomannan, and turmeric.
There are menu list examples for different types of people: Drive-Thru Sue, Purist, Budget Mama, Working Mama, Turtle, Vegetarian, Allergy-Free (including GF), Maintenance (when you’re at goal weight. YAY!). Each one is a week’s worth of meal ideas.
There is a chapter on exercise, and even one for guys. Just because it’s called Trim Healthy Mama doesn’t mean that we have to leave the dudes out!
I definitely prefer the new plan book to the older version, just because the old one is a bit more wordy. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a good book to have. THM isn’t about pressure, it’s about balance. This isn’t a fad diet, but it can be your lifestyle if you chose to make it so. If you want to lose weight, kick your sugar cravings, and improve your overall health, please check out the Trim Healthy Mama Plan! At the time of posting, the books are available in paperback and Kindle from Amazon. It’s a touch cheaper to buy the new plan book and cookbook.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
