Crucifixion is a slow, painful, torturous method of execution in which a person is nailed or tied to a cross and left to hang until the suffocate to death. Usually before being crucified, however, the prisoner was beaten severely, then stripped of his clothes.
At one point in time, over 2,000 years ago, a man went through this voluntarily, so that when we die, we will no longer suffer as we do on Earth, or as we would in Hell. He was beaten so severely that his internal organs were visible. He had a crown made of thorns that he was made to wear. He was mocked as “King of the Jews” and was made to wear a robe and carry his cross to Mount Calvary. He was weak, though, and Simon of Cyrene helped him carry it. The prisoner was again stripped of his clothing, and his hands and feet were nailed to his cross, where he was placed between 2 other prisoners. After he died, a spear was run through his body, and blood and water ran out. His body was taken down and placed into a tomb, and a boulder was rolled into the opening.
Can you imagine going through this? Or allowing your child to go through this torture, just to save a world that was full of evil and people who don’t care? That’s what Jesus did for us. He died for us. If we accept Him as our Savior, we will have no more suffering when we die. We will live for eternity in Heaven with God, Jesus, the angels, and everyone who’s gone on before us who asked Jesus to be their Savior. Have you accepted Christ into your life? If not, will you? Good Friday is the day that symbolizes for Christians as the day that Jesus was crucified and died. If you’d like to accept Christ as your Savior, here is a prayer for you:
Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.
I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin.
You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9 that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.
Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved.
Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your grace never leads to license, but rather it always leads to repentance. Therefore Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself.
Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life.
Amen.
