“Why?” you ask? Because they are finally laying eggs again! Last year, I think I found a total of 2 eggs, then they stopped. We got them all as chicks last Spring. Well, I guess they started laying a gain last week or so. We’ve gotten at least 1 eggs a day, but yesterday we got 3! Jerm built them a small nesting box with 3 nests. Sometimes they use it, and sometimes not. We left an egg in each to hopefully get them wanting to use it. It’s easier to open the box and get eggs out of that than it is to go into the coop itself. It’ll be nice to not have to buy eggs at the store. I think combined we have around 30 hens and roosters. Some of the roosters will be for meat. Monday, I got a green Easter egg. Of course, Ethan had to eat it yesterday, since it’s the only one we’ve gotten yet.
I put in my Bread Beckers order for this quarter. I’m almost out of SR flour, so it was time to order soft white wheat and baking powder. I got a 5 pound pail for cheap! I also got sunflower seeds, flax seeds, several Gamma lids for Jerm, a large empty bucket to keep rice in, and a smaller one for popcorn, some soap, and a bucket lid opener for the smaller buckets. I think I can get by without ordering more wheat and sucanat before June. I expected to go through way more than I actually did. What’s nice is that I can just get a refill bag of the wheat when it comes time to order more.
Happy Hump Day!

I got the 5 pound pail too! When it arrives you’ll think “Oh. My. Gosh.”

I’m expecting it to be similar in size to the sucanat pail, but I’m sure I’ll still be all “durrrr.” I also had to go ahead and order more wheat for bread, because the coordinator said that wheat won’t be available in bags again until Fall, and I don’t have enough to last until then. Blah. Oh well, at least I’m stocked up!
