You may recall that I reviewed a book earlier this year called Motivate Your Child, a book about parenting the hearts of your children that I loved! Well, I was also given the opportunity to review its successor, Motivate Your Child Action Plan. While Motivate Your Child is more informational, Action Plan is getting down to the nitty-gritty, and you’re going to start really doing some work.
Written by the same 2 authors as MYC, Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, RN, BSN, Action Plan is 12 chapters and 162 pages long. There are also 12 audio sessions available to download, one for each chapter. If you read MYC, then now you know that you are going to develop a plan to parent your child’s heart to change bad attitudes, instead of just relying on punishments and consequences.
The theme in Action Plan is forty days. Lots of events in the Bible occurred in a forty-day time frame: Noah’s flood lasted forty days, Jesus fasted for forty days, Elijah was prompted by God to walk for forty days in a cave. You get the picture. The book doesn’t promise a total transformation in that time period, but you should still be able to see a difference. You’ll learn how to create your own strategy for change, and not copy someone else’s.
The book has room for writing to go along with different steps in the book, but if you need to work with more than 1 child, you may need to use extra notebook paper. Meetings with your child are also encouraged to create a parenting plan, and by following 5 steps you can create a plan tailored to each child.
I cannot wait to dig in all the way into Action Plan. This is a great tool for any parent, and I really wish I’d have had this when my own kids were younger. As with MYC, I love the Biblical standpoint that it’s written from.
I’m happy to tell you that Action Plan can be purchased at a discount when you order before May 31st, and if you haven’t already, be sure to pick up your copy of Motivate Your Child as well. Action Plan references back to MYC often, so having a copy of both is beneficial.
