I’m pretty excited about getting to review God’s World News magazine. Before receiving the magazine, I was not at all familiar with it. That’s okay, though, because I love trying new things! For this review, we received the News Current magazine, which is for grades 5-6. My kids love to get mail that’s just for them, and they love looking through magazines, so I knew this would be great for them. We were so stoked to get our magazines!
I’m actually not one who likes to watch or read the news. In fact, when we used to subscribe to the newspaper, the only parts I read were the comics and Dear Abby. My husband watches the news every evening, and I simply watch it because it’s on the TV. I love that God’s World News has a specific magazine that is tailored to different age groups, from Pre-K through High School. Issac is really into the news and weather, so this magazine is right up his alley. It’s news from a Biblical worldview, so I can just give the magazine to the kids and let them read to their heart content. The magazine itself is sort of a mini social studies curriculum. Every magazine is packed with:
- Editorials
- News Graphics
- Lessons
- Weeding Words
- Map-It
- Web Content
- Quizzes
I love that the magazine has vocabulary, and the Map-It is pretty cool, too. The September issue comes with an awesome, ginormous world map! I love work maps, and this one id double-cool because it’s made specifically for God’s World News. A location may be mentioned in an article, and the coordinates to the location are given for you to locate it on the map. We’ve been working a little on map reading/latitude and longitude, so I love having the magazine resources to reinforce these skills. I really want to have this map framed, because in our house things don’t last long. Especially fragile things, and I want this map to last.
I gave the magazine to Issac and Rachelle to read on their own, as well as reading aloud from the magazine for our school-time reading. Another groovy thing about God’s World News is that there is online content that corresponds to each monthly edition. You can even view a digital version of the World map poster! How cool is that? As part of the digital content, you can also receive lessons in your email inbox (the one I received has a “lower” version for younger kids, and an “upper” version for teens. You an also download answer keys for your specific magazine subscription and the digital magazine itself. When it comes to magazines, I prefer the physical version myself, but if you’re using this with more than one child, the digital magazine is a great benefit. This month’s News Current issue has a couple of biographies: one about Jane Austen, and the other about Hank Aaron. You can always view lots of great resources on the website when you subscribe.
God’s World News is an awesome magazine that’s great for the whole family. Even I enjoy reading it to myself. A year’s subscription includes 10 issues and costs $28. This is a great price for all the extras that you get. Be sure to click below to read reviews from my fellow crew members. We all got to review a different subscription!
